Listening to Boyz 2 Men - Doin' Just Fine

I've always loved Boyz 2 Men's music. Oh, it doesn't matter that their songs are often about relationships, heartbreak and more of such ilk, they were, and probably still are, one of the best urban soul groups ever.

I just bought a Boyz 2 Men greatest hits compilation ; listening to them nonstop has placed me in a reflective, vegetative mood. Sue me.

atul5353 - You're welcome =)

zephyr - No problems, and thanks for linking me too yeah? =)

Ain - Hehe =D with this post, you are hereby linked. Ehe =)

Amal - Thanks =) The song was written quite a while before, i just decided to post it up. As the next project =)

Recently i had a long chat with Adhilles, and we came to an agreement that if he could make it, he'll be coming over to Manchester with his recording equipment. That means we'll be recording some songs together, which was the original plan when i wrote my songs. So if anyone is interested in downloading a couple of new songs from us, then check this site often during the Easter break ;D shameless self-advertisement here.

Oh, i have something to rant about. Don't worry, this'll be quick.

Rant mode : ON.

Seriously, don't play around with me, 'cause none of you guys have any idea just what i am. If you people think your 'subtle' games of innuendo and whispered words behind my back would have any adverse effects on me, you are sadly mistaken. This broad back of mine has known many knives, many scars criss-crossing its surface, and i've always shrugged everything off and continued on my way. Just a couple more wouldn't even begin to hurt me.

But don't think, don't think that i will not react when you guys irritate me. I have no respect for any of you, and i will treat you as such, until you have learned sufficiently enough in my eyes to regain my respect.

But until then, if you anger me, i will respond with all the strength, anger and experience of my youth, something that you guys have no experience of, being the protected upper-class snobs you are.

Any one of you people want to take me up on this statement, you know where to find me. That is, if any of you has the balls to actually make something of this, which i seriously suspect to be not the case.

Cowards.

Rant mode : OFF.

Yes, it is the male hormones taking effect, to continously headbutt each other like crazed mountain goats to assert their dominancy in their respective domains.

But this time its something special, as the newbies (i.e. those who were formerly nerds, had no friends and are generally regarded as 'uncool' discovering the real world outside and proceeding to think themselves able to live in it the way they want to, without repercussions) are strutting their stuff, getting in everyone's hair and generally irritating the crap out of everyone who has sense.

And no, i'm not talking about the new Bruneian entrants in Manchester either, rather its the opposite.

Sometimes i wonder about these people in general. But before i go into specifics, let me explain who these people are :

They are the people who were effectively nerds in Brunei, with no widespread networks of friends and very few acquaintances, who were silent, forgotten spectators in the game of life, acknowledged by very few as existing, let alone being alive.

In simple terms, they're the 'tuyu' people. No friends, nothing interesting about them (other than either being smart or coming from a rich family, or both, or neither.), nothing particularly attractive about them, no recognition when anybody sees them, in short : NO LIFE.

But when they study in a foreign country (including OZ, NZ, Canada and whereever else Bruneians go to study, this type of people exists everywhere, it seems.) and they start to learn and grasp the first few tendrils of freedom and responsibility, they go berserk. Curiously, this manifestation of psychosis (for you psychology students out there, natch) has many subroots.

Here's a quick sum up.

1. The responsible, fatherly figure type (guys).
2. The megaslut (girls AND guys).
3. The arrogant smart/rich/good-looking (both).

"Now numbers 2 and 3 are obvious, but what's wrong with number 1?", i hear you ask. Here's a simple, logical explanation - since they have no experience whatsoever of taking care of themselves when back in Brunei, how could these people know what to do in another country? So in short, their 'advice' is generally talking sh*t.

And how could i say all this? Because i know them, i know who they were before they set foot in another man's land. So i ain't labelling anyone unnecessarily, this is who they really are now.

End of explanation. Now back to my wonderment.

I wonder why. Why oh why do these people do this. Don't they realise the 'fame' that they crave here will only last as long as they're here, physically? Sooner or later, you'll have to return home, where everything begins anew. Nobody'll know, let alone care if you were a guitar maestro, a football star, a popular 'everyone-knows-me' person while you were studying abroad. Its what you do in Brunei that matters.

Maybe, just maybe they are trying to make up for lost time, in which case i have no problems with. Go ahead, knock yourselves out. Party here, party there, clubbing here and there, try this try that, go crazy wheeee.

But when these people start to turn all condescending and arrogant towards other people (i.e. me, just as an example) displaying their newfound attitude like a its a right, like they were born with it, this is when the sh*t gets sour.

Excuse me, i simply don't give a damn. I didn't need to go 10,000 miles in the opposite direction to glean experience of the nature that these people crave. Do you guys think that since i don't join you in your various activities, i am beneath you in terms of life's experiences? I could only sit and gape at this, my mind going "What the..?!"

Please. I've done everything that you guys are proud of doing now, and then some. I've done it all, and i'm done with doing it. I didn't need to go so far away from home to do it, i could find similar entertainments back home. These people might argue that its not the same, the experience differs widely, etc. I agree, and i will say the same thing to these guys too; the Bruneian experience differs widely from what you guys are doing. Thing is, i've done both. Have you?

Sorry i'm speaking in such general terms here, but my readers who has knowledge of Bruneian students coming back from a foreign country, either as an acquaintance, a sibling or whatever, would know what i mean. The average Bruneian is very much prone to excess. Use your imaginations when thinking of which types of excess, and you wouldn't be too far from the truth.

Thank God i've gotten over that stage a long, long time ago, neither am i an average Bruneian (at least i think so). I'll have to explain what an 'average Bruneian' is next time.

I really, really don't give a damn about what happens to these sorts of people. They could grind themselves into the mud and stay there for all i care. My compassionate soul *snicker* is very much offended by the sight of such human manifestations of depravity, and i'd much rather be away from such foolish beings. Go do whatever it is you want to do, just don't give me no problems and i won't even look in your direction.

But if any of you 'tuyu' people causes me problems, i'll simply trash you senseless. No matter who you are.

SeVenStaRs, out.

/edit : turns out the rant wasn't so quick after all. Ah, well.
